Exercise

Do I need any equipment if I choose an at home plan?

If you choose to workout at home then having access to an exercise ball and resistance bands would be handy, but we can easily design you a program that doesn't involve any fitness equipment and just uses everyday household items and body weight exercises.

How do I know I’m doing the exercises correctly?

We design you your own personal video demonstration library have access to 24/7. We coach you through each exercise included in your workout sessions and explain step by step how to perform each exercise. If you are unsure of anything just send us an email.

Can the online personal training program be done at home?

YES! We will design your exercise program so you can workout in the comfort of your own home. You will have access to unlimited email support and guidance to keep focused and motivated.

Do I have to have a gym membership or can I exercise at home?

One of the perks of your online personal training programs is you choose where you want to work out, whether that be at the gym or at home, we tailor your program to suit your lifestyle. You don’t have to have a gym membership or have access to a gym.

Nutrition

Do I have to follow the nutritional guide?

No you do not have to follow the nutritional guide but we will design one for you anyway incase you would like to refer to it from time to time. If you prefer to cook and prepare your own meals then we have created a list of recommended healthy and nutritious food choices to help you stay on track.

How expensive will my food bill be?

You will find that by eating healthy your food bill will probably come down. The price of all the junk food you throw into you trolley adds up. Fruit and veggie markets are often the cheapest way to go.

I am vegetarian

We cater for vegetarians. We have an extensive range of recipes and food ideas for you to choose from.

I am gluten intolerant

At this stage we do not have a specific recipe section for gluten free meals and meal ideas but we are currently working on achieving this. Can I add some of my favourite food into the nutritional guide?

Yes. We strive to make your nutritional guide flexible so you can still enjoy your favourite foods. We teach you how to adapt your nutritional intake so you can incorporate foods that you enjoy into your recipes and meals. Healthy eating should be an enjoyable lifestyle change, not an unmaintainable “diet”! We don't tell you what to eat, you choose your favourite recipes and meals ideas from our extensive Peak Pregnancy Recipe library.

Health concerns

Can I do the program if I have an injury?

In most cases the answer would be yes, but we would have to assess your injury before we could answer a definite yes or no to this question. Many people have a past or current injury of some sort. We would carefully customise your program around your injury and focus on restrengthening and healing around the injured area.

Can I do the program if I have type 1 or 2 diabetes?

Our Registered Midwife and Clinical Nurse has many years experience working with diabetic women in many different health care settings consisting of educating and advising pregnant women who develop Gestational Diabetes in pregnancy.  So you can feel reassured that you will receive reliable advice and guidance throughout your program. Type 2 diabetes is often weight related and can be reversed through our program with your personal diet and exercise program. We ask you to liaise with your health care professional once you receive your program.

Can I do the program if I have a medical condition?

This depends of what medical condition you have as this may or may not impact on your ability to exercise or your nutritional requirements. We assess your medical history before we design your program, if your medical condition is out of our scope of competence and requires more specialised attention than what we can offer, we will then inform you of our decision and provide you with a full refund. Please be aware that we cannot cater for ALL medical conditions.

Pre-Pregnancy Body Prep program questions

What happens if I become pregnant during the program?

Let us know if you fall pregnancy during your 12 week program and we will adjust your program accordingly free of charge.

Can the prenatal program help me to become pregnant?

Our program focuses on accelerating weight loss, which can ultimately boost fertility and help you to fall pregnant. To help you understand how losing weight can help improve fertility and make conception easier here's a brief summary of what’s going on inside your body;

Women carrying extra weight who are having difficulty conceiving often have an imbalance of reproductive hormones. Excess fatty tissue can produce and release extra oestrogen into the body disrupting the normal reproductive cycle which can result in a loss of menstrual period, irregular periods, lack of ovulation and can increase the risk of miscarriage. The body detects this rise in oestrogen so ovaries produce less oestrogen to compensate for the higher levels of oestrogen produced by fatty tissue. Think about how contraception works: the contraceptive pill releases oestrogen into your system the same way fat cells do, so the more fatty tissue present the more oestrogen can be produced and release into the body.

Women who hold excess body fat around their central waist are often the ones that have difficulty falling pregnant, therefore decreasing this central body fat often improves fertility and can make it easier to become pregnant. Losing as little as 10% of your body weight can be enough to resume regular ovulation and improve your chances of a natural conception as well as reduce the risk of miscarriage. The focus of your program is to accelerate weight loss to help balance out your reproductive hormones making it easier for you to conceive.

How is my nutritional guide different from everyone elses?

When you purchase your program we ask you to complete a questionnaire that assesses your medical, personal and pregnancy history. We use this information to assess your daily calorie and nutritional demands and then design your personal nutritional guide, just for you!

We assess:

  • Your daily activity level
  • Your daily lifestyle habits
  • Any medical conditions you may have
  • Your appetite
  • How fast or slow your metabolism may be
  • Any medications you may be taking
  • Any fertility problems or concerns you may have
  • Your weight loss goals
  • Your body mass index (BMI)

Your personal nutrition guide is designed to work concurrently with your exercise plan to further accelerate your weight loss potential.

How much weight should I expect to lose during the program?

This depends on how much extra weight you are carrying and how closely you stick with your exercise plan and nutritional guide. Weight loss goals are different for everyone. You may reach your weight loss goals by the end of your 12 week program with us or you may have a longer term weight loss goal that you continue on after you complete your program. No matter what your ultimate weight loss goal is we are with you every step of the way to coach you through your weight loss journey, keep you motivated and focused and help you maximise your weight loss potential.

How is my exercise program different from everyone elses?

When you purchase your program we ask you to fill in a questionnaire that assesses your medical, personal and pregnancy history. We then use this information to design your exercise program, just for you!

We assess:

  • Your fitness level
  • Any past or present medical conditions you may have
  • Any past or present injuries you may have
  • Your daily lifestyle habits
  • Any unexpected change in circumstances during the program (eg and injury or pregnancy!)
  • Any fertility problems or concerns you may have

Can the program help improve polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)?

PCOS is associated with insulin resistance, which triggers your body to produce extra insulin to compensate for high blood sugar levels. High levels of insulin triggers the ovaries to produce testosterone which can disrupt egg development and make it very hard for you to become pregnant. If you are wondering what is causing excessive hair growth and acne you can also blame that one on higher than normal level of testosterone floating around in your body! Multiple studies have found that loosing weight through healthy nutrition and exercise can improve your chances of conceiving so the first goal to improving your PCOS is to decrease and stabilise the amount of insulin floating around in your blood stream. Reducing the amount if insulin in your body will help to stabile your blood sugars and reduce the amount of testosterone in your body which can ultimately improve your menstrual cycle and help you to become pregnant. Our pre pregnancy program provides you with a customized exercise plan and nutritional guide to help you overcome the barriers of PCOS and help you to conceive.

Can the prenatal program decrease the chance of miscarriage?

Yes it can. Unfortunately miscarriage is a common occurrence in early pregnancy and is often experienced as a result of abnormal development of your growing baby. On many occasions miscarriages are in the hands of nature and out of our control, but lifestyle factors such as poor nutrition and being overweight are factors that can also contribute to an increased risk of miscarriage. Our pre pregnancy program will help you improve your daily lifestyle habits and target weight loss while promoting a healthy balanced diet to assist in a healthy conception and healthy development of your growing baby.

Pregnancy Mothers To Be Program questions

Can I do the program if I have never exercised before?

Of course you can! Your program will be very different from pregnant women who exercise regularly.  We design you a program that is safe and suitable for your fitness level and one that you will enjoy throughout your pregnancy journey. Introducing exercise into your pregnancy improves the overall health of your pregnancy and your growing baby. Remember to get clearance from your GP before you start.

Is exercise during pregnancy safe?

Unless you have been living with your head buried under a doona and your blinkers on you have probably heard of or read something from the mass of information released by the media informing women that exercise during pregnancy is SAFE for your baby and highly recommend for most women. The old school warnings and conservative ways of thinking around exercise and pregnancy are now out the window with an influx of quality based research findings that now recognised the many benefits that exercise has on the overall health and wellbeing of you, your pregnancy and your baby.

But before you jump the gun and plunge into the world of fitness we emphasis the importance of following an exercise program that has been safely customised to suit your individual pregnancy. What you might not be aware of is that incorrect exercise plans and advice can contribute to pregnancy problems and complications and could ultimately lead to lack of oxygen and blood flow to your baby which could cause growth and development problems or worse. We closely assess your obstetric, medical and personal history and use this information to design a safe and suitable exercise program just for you.

Can I do the program if I am an advanced athlete?

Yes, you sure can. Your program will focus on maintaining your fitness level, physique and muscle tone while managing healthy pregnancy weight gain. During pregnancy you can safely exercise at a more advanced level than others, so we design a program that is safe and suitable for your pregnancy. Continuing to exercise at a more advanced level during your pregnancy is important to retain your muscle tone and will help you regain your pre pregnancy physique and fitness level soon after you deliver baby. Continuing to workout throught your pregnancy can also help further improve your overall fitness level.

Does it matter if I am in my first second or third trimester when I do the program?

No. That’s the beauty of our custom designed plans, we design your program to suit your stage of pregnancy. As your pregnancy grows and develops your calorie requirements and exercise needs change. We safely adapt and modify your program to the demands of your pregnancy depending on how many weeks pregnant you are. Take a moment to compare the exercise and nutritional demands of a 6 week pregnancy and a 36 week pregnancy and you will realise that a standard one size fits all exercise program is not a safe or suitable option for pregnancy.

We recommend you wait untill you are about 16 weeks before you choose to participate in our pregnancy program.  Before 16 weeks you can usually continue with whatever exercise regime you are currently doing, as long as this is not to strenuous and you are not exercising to fatigue or exhaustion. After 16 weeks you needs to start making changes to how you exercise to ensure you and your growing baby stay safe during your workouts.

What happens if I buy the program and then deliver baby early?

That's the beauty of our flexible customised pregnancy program! If you happen to deliver baby early all you need to do is inform us of your delivery details and we will alter the remaining weeks of your program to help you to kick-start your pregnancy weight loss. Our Midwife has over 7 years experience working at King Edward Memorial Hospital, one the worlds highest risk specialised maternity hospitals and Western Australia's highest risk specialised maternity hospital. She has cared for many women who have gone into early labour and has delivered many teeny tiny baby’s into the world well before their due date. It's still unclear what triggers many women to go into early labour, which is why a portion of your program fee is donated to ongoing research into what causes women to go into early labour and what can be done to reduce the number of babies being born into the world to soon.

How much weight should I expect to put on during pregnancy?

The question on every pregnant women’s mind is how much weight should they expect to gain during their pregnancy. Unfortunately there is no magical answer simply because appropriate healthy pregnancy weight gain is different for everyone and is dependent on how much extra weight you were carrying (your body mass index (BMI)) just prior to pregnancy. Different recommendations have been developed for women who are underweight, of a healthy weight, are overweight or obese. If you fall within the healthy weight range category, then you should be aiming for about 12.5kg weight gain during pregnancy. If you are outside of this normal weight range then the amount of pregnancy weight gain will be different.

We help you control and manage your recommended healthy pregnancy weight gain to promote a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.

Are there any consequences from putting on too much weight or not enough weight?

Gaining too much weight or not gaining enough weight during pregnancy can put you and your baby at risk of developing pregnancy complications. Excessive weight gain increases your risk of developing gestational diabetes, elevated blood pressure and can disrupt healthy development of your growing baby. Gaining too much weight in pregnancy can also lead to a problematic labour and birth with an increased risk of tears, cuts, forceps, vacuum and caesarean section. Piling on the kilos during pregnancy makes it a lot harder for you to lose pregnancy weight after delivery. Research suggests that you are more likely to hold more body weight after your delivery, meaning you may never make it back to your pre pregnancy weight. I'm not just saying this to scare you, this information is all based on quality research findings!!!!

Many women are worried about gaining to much weight, but keep in mind that not gaining enough weight also puts you at a higher risk of developing pregnancy complications. These complications can include going into labour early and can contribute to problems with your growing babies health. Birth weight is a strong indicator of future health and intelligence and babies born premature or with a low birth weight are at an increased risk of  heart disease, stoke and diabetes later in life.

Post-Pregnancy Body Revamp program questions

Will the program help flatten and tone my stomach?

We ask you to perform a quick self test to assess the condition of your stomach muscles aftre pregnancy before we design your abdominal routine. Your stomach muscles have been excessively stretched during your pregnancy and the left and right sides of your abdominal muscle (rectus abdominus) can separate from each other and more often than not leave a gap down the midline. A gap greater than 2 or 3 finger width is called rectus diastasis and this can be reversed. Depending on how wide the gap is between your stomach muscles will depend on what ab exercises are right for you. Your abs routine focuses on healing, toning, flattening and restrengthenening your abdominal muscles.

Your program will provide you with a week by week guide that firstly focuses on strengthening the underlying  base abdominals to flatten your tummy. Once this muscle is re-strengthened you progress to working on your outer external muscles, which you may know as the 6 pack muscles. Working on yourouter (6 pack muscles) before strengthening the inner muscle can cause  more harm then good and can ultimatley leave you with ongoing lower back pain, pelvic pain, joint pain and incontinence!  Working on your inner abdominal muscles helps to flatten your abs and prevents the bulging of the abdominal wall. In other words You must strengthen your abdominal muscles from the inside out. This is not the time to throw yourself into sit ups, crunches and other forward crunching movements that use your outer 6 pack abdominal muscles.

Abdominal tone if often hidden by a layer of fat which is where cardio training is important. We find the right balance of weight training/body weight training and cardio training to accelerate your weight loss and help you to achieve your goals.

Can I do the program if I am breastfeeding?

Yes you can! This is where our midwifery led program provides you with a safe and reliable program to help maintain optimal lactation while accelerating post pregnancy weight loss. We assess the number of breast feeds you offer baby each day as well as your daily energy expenditure and use this information to carefully work out your daily calorie requirements that will target fast effective weight loss while maintaining a healthy milk supply.  Vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat can be transferred to your breast milk and passed onto baby which is why the recipes and meal ideas in your nutritional guide are rich in nutrients designed to improve the quality of your breast milk and improve your baby health. On the other hand consuming foods which contain little or no nutritional value while you are breastfeeding can decrease the potential quality of your breast milk and can rob your baby of good health. What you may not be aware of is that finding the happy medium between promoting weight loss but maintaining a good milk supply is a delicate balancing act. Reducing your calorie intake below your daily calorie requirement will most probably reduce the quantity of milk you produce or possibly dry up your breast milk supply altogether but on the other hand consuming more than your daily calorie requirement will obviously hinder your weight loss goals. You can feel rest assured that your nutritional guide is based on reliable midwifery knowledge and quality research findings!

How is my nutritional guide different from everyone elses?

When you purchase your program we send you a questionnaire to fill in that assesses your medical, personal, delivery and post pregnancy history. We use this information to assess your daily calorie and nutritional demands and then design your personal nutritional guide, just for you!

We assess:

  • Your daily activity level
  • Your daily lifestyle habits
  • Your appetite
  • Any medical conditions you may have
  • Any medications you may be taking
  • How fast or slow your metabolism may be
  • If you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding baby or maybe a bit of both
  • Your weight loss goals
  • Your body mass index (BMI)
  • Your labour and birth experience

Your personal nutrition guide is designed to work concurrently with your exercise plan to further accelerate your weight loss potential.

How is my exercise program different from everyone elses?

When you purchase your program we send you a questionnaire to fill in that assesses your medical, personal and post pregnancy history as well as your birth experience. We then use this information to design your exercise program, just for you!

We assess:

  • Your fitness level
  • Your choice of feeding baby
  • Any past or present medical conditions you may have
  • Any past or present injuries you may have
  • If you had a caesarean section or delivered baby naturally
  • Any tears/cuts you may have received from your labour or birth
  • Your daily lifestyle habits
  • Any degree of abdominal muscle separation
  • Any discomforts related to your birth experience
  • Any signs of pelvic floor weakness

Can I do the program if I have had a caesarean section?

Yes! Your exercise program is quite different compared with if you have had a natural delivery. Your core muscles may be weakened from surgery and it's important that you strengthen your inner abdominal muscles before you start working your outer abdominal muscles by pumping out the sit ups! Your scar may looked healed on the outside but you may still healing on the inside so your exercises are selectively chosen to promote fast effective healing as well as accelerate weight loss. As your muscles strengthen and your fitness improves your program will challenge you further and further each week to transition you back into a regular exercise pattern. Please see your GP for your postnatal check for clearance to start exercising.

How much weight should I expect to lose during the program?

This depends on how much weight you gained during pregnancy and how closely you stick with your post pregnancy exercise plan and nutritional guide. Weight loss goals are different for everyone, you may reach your weight loss goals by the end of your 12 week program with us or you may have a longer term weight loss goal that you continue on after the completion of your program. No matter what your ultimate weight loss goals are we are with you every step of the way to coach you, motivated you and keep you focused to maximise your full weight loss potential and shed those pregnancy kilos for a new and improved you.
